Statistics show that around 1 in 6 people in the England report experience of a common mental health problem in any given week.1 Whether mild or severe, it can affect our ability to cope where we might otherwise be able to manage.
Counselling provides a confidential space to talk with a trained professional. The counsellor can act as a sounding board for you to speak openly about your concerns without fear of judgement or consequence outside of the room. By working together, you can achieve a better understanding of what’s going on and how you might approach it.
Life doesn’t have to reach crisis point for you to benefit from talking to a counsellor.
Physical and mental wellbeing are interlinked and work on a continuum so an imbalance in any aspect of our health or changes in the demands of life can leave us feeling less able to cope than we might be used to. Seeking support from a counsellor can help to provide insight and coping strategies to help regain a sense of resilience and wellbeing.

Victoria Field is a registered counsellor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy. She has worked in the charity sector and occupational health setting offering both long- and short-term therapy on a range of issues, including work-related stress, relationship difficulties, anxiety, depression, bereavement and coping with ill health.
Victoria works collaboratively with clients drawing on a range of therapeutic models including person-centred, humanistic and cognitive-behavioural approaches to adapt to each person’s needs. You will work in a short term, focused way to define the problem and decide how best to approach it. For some people this can be about taking time to reflect on their experiences and the impact it has on them, and for others more structured techniques are provided to help manage and understand specific experiences.

How we work / What to expect
Each person’s needs are different, so the focus of our work is on collaboration to build a therapeutic relationship that works for you. Within a confidential, respectful and safe space, clients can explore their thoughts, feelings, needs, and patterns of relating which can help to provide clarity and explore how to move forward.
The counsellor will listen and support as required and can provide techniques and coping strategies to help with different needs to take forward outside of the counselling environment. For some it’s enough to have the space to speak freely that provides the perspective and clarity they need.
Sessions last one hour on a one-to-one basis, either in person or over the phone.
The number of sessions can be arranged to suit the needs of each person.
