Self-Care week, taking place 18-24 November 2024, emphasises the importance of taking care of your own health and wellbeing, and it is perfect timing after International Stress Awareness Week to prioritise yourself.
This year’s theme is Mind and Body, giving the opportunity to recognise that looking after your mental wellbeing will benefit your physical health too.
How to practice self-care
Start with one or two things that you know you can manage; taking small steps and taking time to find what works for you will make it easier to create long-term habits.
- Connect with friends, family, colleagues, neighbours. Building connections will support and enrich you every day.
- Learn new skills or revisit an interest/ hobby- this boosts your confidence and enjoyment.
- Take notice of the world around you. Being aware of your surroundings and being mindful will help you realise what matters most to you.
- Give to others by doing something nice for a friend, or even a stranger. Thank people, smile at others, volunteer. Seeing yourself as part of a wider community is fulfilling.
- Be active by engaging in exercise that you enjoy and that suits your current fitness level. This makes you feel good and reduces risks of many illnesses.
